Summer Fun with Goldendoodles

Summer Fun with Goldendoodles

Are you ready for some summer fun with goldendoodles?

With Memorial Day weekend behind us, we are officially in summer mode. The heat is on and many of us have water sports on our minds, as we try to keep cooled off. Of course our sweet doodles want to join in the fun. Here is Will, a natural model, showing off his groovy life jacket, which is a very good thing to remember if you happen to have a fearless water lover.

Plan your summer fun with goldendoodles in mind

Of course, some doodles love swimming and water more than others. The waterloving doodles will need their own bin or tub to spend their summers in, while the divas may be a little shy about getting chlorine or sand in those beautiful waves or curls. One thing though that all doodles have in common is that they love their people and getting to participate in activities with their family.

With that in mind, as you make your summer plans, consider activities, vacations and outtings that are pet friendly and bring your goldendoodle along, be it water sports, a beach vacation, hiking and camping or a family road trip. Most doodles are great travelers, are friendly with strangers, love adventure and trying new things, and have fairly good stamina and strength.

Doodle Fashion Designs, by Henry the Goldendoodle

Doodle Fashion Designs, by Henry the Goldendoodle

Henry Says… “Like My Doodle Fashion Designs?”

Noah’s Henry, a standard F1b goldendoodle who calls Portland home, is looing pretty pleased with his Doodle fashion designs. Evidently he had a ‘rascal moment’ and tunneled through a trash bag, coming up with his very first doodle fashion design. It amazes me how happy and accomplished doodles can look, no matter what. They can be such clowns.

Henry, a standard F1b Goldendoodle, looked pretty pleased with his handywork

We have known Henry’s family for many years. He is their family’s 4th goldendoodle! Their third goldendoodle was a sweet rescue story.

One day we received an urgent call about a goldendoodle that needing to be rehomed. The poor pup was caught in the middle of family troubles and had developed anxiety behavior issues as a result. We contacted one of our favorite local dog trainers and he spent a few weeks at their training facility relearning some manners and getting settled again. Once the trainer felt he was ready, his new family came out to get trained as well and the sweet boy got to go to his new home and family, and became their doodle number three.

I love Happy Endings!

Coco has been so very good this year!

Although you’d never know it at 3 weeks old, once their fuller coats come in, they should have beautiful, curlier coats. The curlier coated doodles tend to be more hypo-allergenic because they tend to shed less. If anyone in your family suffers from allergies, an F1b is probably the better bet. These F1b goldendoodle puppies will range in weight from 45-65 lbs, so they will be fairly standard size goldendoodles.

What You can Expect When Getting One of our Puppies

Blonde F1b goldendoodle puppy available in Houston
Elfie won’t always be this little

We often get asked if there anything special to know about our doodle puppies when they go to their new homes, and the answer is, “Yes!”

First of all, we will have started crate training your puppy. We recommend all of our puppies be crated or kept in a playyard like this one when unsupervised for the first year to keep them out of trouble and to make potty training easier.

Speaking of potty-training, we have started our F1b goldendoodle puppies on early potty training and will give you tips on how to continue it once they go to their new homes.

First vet check - goldendoodle puppies
Our puppies love their vet check ups

All our puppies have had their parasite and worm treatments every two weeks and their first set of shots before going home. All puppies are susceptible to parvo though at this early age, so we do ask that you keep your puppy away from areas with high pet traffic or where sick dogs may have been, including dog parks, side walks, pet stores, etc. They need a series of three shots at three week intervals, so although they’ve had their first shot, you will need to be careful with them until about 14-16 weeks of age when they are fully vaccinated.

Your puppy will have been seen by our vet to ensure that they are in good overall health, but please take your puppy to your new vet within the first 72 hours of picking them up.
